General Setup: Treatment List Setup

Treatment List Setup allows administrators to view and configure which state-permitted procedures, medications, and protocols their agency uses.

Accessing Treatment List Setup

Navigate to Setup > Agency Configuration > Treatment List Setup.

Permissions

Access to this screen requires the Treatment/Protocols List Setup permission, located in Roles Setup > General Permissions. This permission is enabled by default for the Administrator role and disabled for all other roles.

Some fields on this screen may appear as read-only depending on your permission level. If you need to modify certification level assignments and the columns are grayed out, contact AIM Support for assistance.

Treatment List Type Dropdown

A dropdown labeled Treatment List Type provides three options: Procedures, Medications, and Protocols. When you change the dropdown selection, the grid below automatically refreshes to display items for the selected category.

Treatment Grid

The grid displays all items permitted by the state for the selected treatment category.

Grid columns include:

  • Enabled – Checkbox indicating whether the agency uses this item. Check to enable, uncheck to disable.
  • Code – Read-only code from the applicable standard (SNOMED-CT for Procedures, RxNorm for Medications, NASEMSO for Protocols).
  • Description – Read-only name or description of the item from the state dataset.
  • Certification Level Columns – One column per active certification level configured for your state in State Setup (e.g., AEMT, EMR, EMT, Paramedic). Each contains a checkbox indicating whether that provider type is authorized to perform the item.

Certification level columns are displayed dynamically based on what certification levels are active for your state. If your state has different certification levels than another state, the columns will differ accordingly.

Configuring Treatment Lists

Procedures

The Procedures list displays all procedures permitted by your state, identified by SNOMED-CT codes. Enable procedures your agency performs. Certification level assignments control which provider types can perform each procedure.

Medications

The Medications list displays all medications permitted by your state, identified by RxNorm codes. Enable medications your agency administers. Certification level assignments control which provider types can administer each medication.

Protocols

The Protocols list displays all protocols permitted by your state, identified by NASEMSO codes. Enable protocols your agency follows.

Save Button

The Save button saves changes for the currently displayed treatment list only. Saving Procedures does not affect Medications or Protocols, and vice versa. Always save before switching to a different treatment list type.

Impact on ePCR Dropdowns

Treatment List Setup directly controls what field providers see in their ePCR dropdowns. The system filters available options based on two factors: whether the item is enabled in Treatment List Setup, and whether the provider’s certification level is authorized for that item.

How Filtering Works

When a field provider opens a procedure, medication, or protocol dropdown in the ePCR:

  • Procedures and Medications: Only items where the Enabled checkbox is checked AND at least one of the provider’s certification levels is checked will appear. Items not meeting both conditions are completely hidden from the dropdown.
  • Protocols: Only protocols where the Enabled checkbox is checked will appear in the dropdown.

The system retrieves the provider’s certification levels from Personnel Setup > Practice Certification Levels. If a provider holds multiple certification levels, items authorized for any of their levels will be visible.
