Dispatch Module Data Entry Functionality

Each screen is organized by pages, tabs, groups, and fields.

Pages: The program further organizes tabs/groups/fields and larger program functionality.

Tabs: Related groups and fields are organized as tabs, typically by NEMSIS elements.

Groups: Fields are often organized and named to keep related data together.

Fields: Fields are places where specific data is entered.

Functionality is consistent in the Dispatch Module in the use of these buttons and actions.

Save, OK: Click to save the data entered in fields on a window.

Add (+): Click to create a new entry. This usually displays a record.

Cancel: Click to stop data entry on a specific screen or pop-up.

Note: Cancel does not save data.

Save+:  Click to save your current entry and automatically open another record for entry.

* Map Button: Location fields can have a Map Icon. This opens a Google Map in a new window.

Not Value: Click to select a specific Not Value for this field. This explains why data is absent.

Pertinent Negative: Turns green with input; provides further details on collected data.

Note: Not Values and Pertinent Negatives are often controlled by field configurations. These fields may or may not be required by the state.

Tiers: Allows the user to select items from a list and view multiple options within a field before selecting the best option.

Note: These lists are based on the NEMSIS Suggested List and state-specific documentation.

Basic Field Types

Text allows data to be typed in from a keyboard. Entered data becomes bolder for later viewing. The maximum number of characters for a text field is 255.

Clicking on the entered data highlights it. Data can be backspaced, deleted, or retyped:

o     New data can be retyped, thereby removing the highlighted data.

o     Hit the right arrow to place the cursor at the end of the data.

o     Hit the left arrow to place the cursor at the beginning of the data.

Formatted fields require data to be entered in a specific way. For example, Phone Numbers must include an Area Code (10 digits).

Invalid data will be met with messages, or the data will not save in the field.

Text boxes are text-based, with functionality to format the data entered as bold (B), italic (I) and underline (U) (or a combination of the formats). Text boxes can handle paragraphs of data.

Drop-Down fields contain a short list of entries, typically with a code and a description, and are preset.

Click on an entry. After selecting, the entry appears in the field:

Checkboxes allow for multiple entries. Mark checkboxes to select as many entries as needed.

Quick Picks act like a text field in data entry but must be selected (with AutoComplete) from the list of entries in the appropriate category in the Quick Pick Setup Area.

Quick Picks are user-definable and completely controlled by the company. These do not involve codes and the list is not assigned (like a drop-down) by the state or NEMSIS.
